Young Archaeologists
National Roman Legion Museum hosts research session
We had a wonderful session at Caerleon Museum 11th March with the Young Archaeologists. The group consisted of children aged 7 – 14 all of whom are passionate about history.
The group were so enthusiastic and thoroughly enjoyed the morning researching two soldiers from the 1st Monmouthshire Regiment - Lance Corporal William Henry Crayford who died on the Somme 2nd July 1916 and Private George Harry Hyde who died at Frezenberg Ridge 8th May 1915.
The children researched the 1911 Census to find out where the soldiers were born and who their families were and then looked at the military records. We all listened to the war diaries that had been recorded.
